My wonderings

I'm sitting here alone right now. My daughter and granddaughter have went to their new house. My hubby is sleeping, he has to return to work tomorrow. I'm in deep thought. Sometimes I see, hear or read things that start my mind wondering in all different directions.

I'm part of a wonderful community called Magical Holiday Home. This is a group of very creative caring, loving individuals. When one of us is happy we all celebrate. When one is sad we feel their pain and try to support and encourage.

Celebrating things gets my mind going in different ways I can celebrate and enjoy life more.

But at this moment my mind is in saddness and wondering about life. There is a saying I picked up many years ago it is: Write yourself well. It means when something is troubling you to write it out. It will help a little or alot but it will help.

I think about life. We go through life busy, busy, busy with this, that or the other. We make our plans: to get our home clean and straighten, to get a better job, to take a trip, to write a book, etc...then life happens it could be a fantastic change that takes us down a different path or a minor setback or something terrible.

I can't help wondering about the why's that's my human nature. I will just keep trying to be a good person, help where I can. And remember to pray, encourage, support, laugh, live and love.

God bless you all

Quotes of the Month

I wanted to share what I've been doing in my yearly planner At the beginning of each month I write a quote on the top of the page It might be a quote by a famous person or it could be something someone has said that stuck with me

When I see or hear it I instantly know that's the quote for the month And somehow that quote just winds up fitting that months situations

Here is the quote for August:

Be Absolutely Determined To Enjoy What you Do

A few months have had sub-quotes that just seem to fit with it August sub-quote is: Experience tells us what to do confidence allows us to do it

Here are the ones for the rest of the year so far:

Janurary:

Make New Friends But Keep The Old

Feburary

More Like Me Less Like You

March

Be The Change That You Want To See In The World

April

Never Allow A Person To Tell You NO Who Doesn't Have The Power To Say YES

May

You'll Never Know If You Never Try

June

You'll Find What You Look For

July

No-one Can Make You Feel Inferior Without Your Consent

I thought these quotes might some how touch someone else

BTW if you don't already know it the period has stopped working on this laptop ughhhhh

Walk in my world

Hope everyone is having a Happy 4th of July. I've picked up a lesson from today already lol

I like the lead up to holidays and events but sometimes don't enjoy the actual day. I figured out today what it is that I dislike about holidays.

I HATE the stresss. Got to have everything just right, so and so is coming. We need this we need that, got to get this done and that done by a certain time. HURRY HURRY HURRY!

WHOA buddy! This is my world. Slow down. Others are more than welcome here but they'll have to move at my pace. Which around holidays has to be relaxed and slow in order for me not to get so stressed.

And guess what? I bring the majority of the stress on myself. I want to enjoy the holiday's, I don't have to perform at what I perceive as others expectations to do it.

So this day has took a turn for the slower more relaxed way.

Happy Holiday's to all.

This and That

We've had beautiful weather this past week. And we've been totally enjoying it.

We had a annual community event in our park yesterday. We set up a booth, enjoyed visiting with others and got some sun to boot. My daughter and granddaughter got sunburnt. I just got darker.

My granddaughter finally got to play ball again this past Thursday after 3 weeks of rain outs. They won 18-8. It's alot of fun to watch these little girls.

Now over to Yay-me to post.

Thursday, May 15, 2008

Well Hopefully

The rain will let us get some more ball games in this year. Her last games were canceled 2 because of the weather. Poor baby is getting very disppointed.

On a nicer note I got my hair cut. More about that on my YAY-ME blog.

Disguised-A vent

This is my little vent. Let me say it's about one man and not meant to offend anyone. If you're a female I'm sure you recognize and have probably at sometime in your life experienced the saying "It's a mans world." But it's not rigjht for little 7-9 year old girls to experience this.

Henceforth my vent- My granddaughter was supposd to have a softball game at 7 p.m. last night. She's in uniform anticipating the game when her coach rings the phone at 6:30 p.m. Her game has been cancelled.

It rained Wednesday night. But when my daughter called the recreation center at 1:30 p.m Thursday they said the games were on. After the coach called she went out to the sports plex to find the Parks & Recreation manager.

All the other games were in progress at the time. So she walked up to him and asked him to explain to her 7 year old daughter why her game was cancelled. He said their field wasn't in playing condition look at the field. She said you're correct that field isn't safe. BUT that wasn't the little girls field. He took their field and gave it to the boys to play on.

He claim it was easier to make up 1 game than 2. There was no reason to make up 2 games. If he'd done right the little boys game was all that needed to be made up. As a matter of fact there was NO reason for any game to be made up.

The instructional league(4-6 year old boys & girls) only play 1 hour. All he had to do was start a game 1 hour later.

When are we going to get over the caveman days that say males are more valuable than females?

All these kids have to pay the same amount to play but yet the girls always get the shaft. They don't get all stars. The boys have more leagues.

Please understand this is about being FAIR to all the kids no matter their sex. What are his actions saying to our kids?

I'm so disguised in his behavior it stinks!

Hanging around

It's 5 p.m. looks like the weather "might" let them have their game. Altho, our weather man just showed some pop up showers, not sure which way they're moving yet.

My daughter is giving her feet a relaxing soak this afternoon. I can't believe how giving your feet their own"spa like" treatment helps the rest of a body to feel so good and relaxed.

Let me know if anyone else trys this.

Relaxing Night

They say it might rain tomorrow. I hope not we have a game tomorrow night.

We've been enjoying a relaxing night tonight. We're watching Law & Order right now.I've been doing somethings this week to celebrate me. You can read about them in my YAY-Me blog.

I think I'll go read on Magical Holiday Home now.

We Won again

My granddaughters coach pitch softball team played again ths past Thursday. They won 22-13. They play so good and really try hard. We're so proud of all them.

My granddaughter plays catcher and right fielder and gives it all she has. She used to be so shy but is blossming into a real go getter.

On a sad note the weather was rotten yesterday. I feel so bad for the folks who losed love ones. It's not easy to lose your home and property but that can be replaced. Our prayers go out to these families.

We Won

My granddaughter had her first softball(she plays pitching machine, coach pitch) game of the season yesterday(Tuesday). Her team won 16-11 altho I couldn't tell you alot about the game. I was the 3rd base coach and everything was moving quickly.

That is after the game finally got started. There was a hour delay in start time because of the field being tied up with other games.

We were all happy they played so well and enjoyed theirselves.

Words to ponder

Sometimes I read/hear a quote that speakes to me. Or words of a song. or maybe a tv commercial that speakes to me.

Today I heard words on tv that I've been pondering on:

"If you don't try you'll never know."

This could apply to anything in life.

No games

Well the kids ball season was supposed to start today(Saturday). But the weather last night had different ideas. Got a call this morning from the coach letting us know the games were cancelled today.

So I guess the ball games will officialy start Monday. My granddaughter is ready to play.

Tuesday, April 22, 2008

Bumpy practice

My granddaughter had ball practice today. We hadn't been there but a couple of minutes, when ever she missed a ball playing catch. Which resulted in a pump knot on her head.

We went and got ice to put on it. This helped the swelling, its hardly even swollen now, however there is going to be a bruise.

The really surprising part is she didn't cry at all. Now she's a little girly girl and still on the shy side some is why we were surprised she didn't cry. Guess she's showing us she's tougher than we think.

The coach decided to move her from right field to catcher's position now. We weren't too sure about that move but she will be in full catcher's gear and since this is coach pitch we shouldn't have to worry about wild pitches.

Guess she has some tomboy in her that we didn't realize lol. First game will be this coming Saturday. Except for the bump knot the practice went really well and the girls all did good. And the coaches too.

Spring fever

Well we did have ball practice Saturday. It was chilly and had to be cut short because of rain. This is a young team so hope they get enough practice in to know what to do.

The weather is supposed to be in the 70's this coming week but with the possibility of showers.

I wish I had a outdoor room if that makes any sense. A room that protected from mosquitoes and other insects. As well, as the elements of the weather but let you feel like you were enjoying the outside.

A room to eat outside in as well as invite others in for a visit. With nice comfortable outdoors furniture to relax in.

Oh well I can wish.

Friday, April 18, 2008

What do I call this

It is chilly tonight. Be glad when the weather decides to stay around 70.

Not sure what to call this post. Have a couple of choices lol. Could call it-Ugghhh dr part 3. Hubby went back to dr today with the same results as this past Mon.

Or I could call it- Coach wake up. Granddaughter is scheduled to have ball practice in the morning. However, it rained today and is supposed to be chilly in the morning. So wouldnt be surprised if we get up early then get sent back home again. Oh well, just have to wait and see.

Oh a more postive note granddaighter is writing her first name in cursive tonight. She is so smart.

Ughhh Doctors part 2

My hubby went to see the dr. that did his scope after work today. He drove over there just to be told the doctor isn't in we have to reschedule.

So he goes back again Friday. UGHHH

Saturday, April 12, 2008

Tired today

I'm a night owl whose give out tonight lol. We climbed out of bed at 7:30 a.m. so my granddaughter could get ready for her first ball season practice this year. Just to get out there at 9 o'clock and hear the coach say it's too cold and windy to practice.Which it was but wish we'd knew sooner could have used the sleep.

But the day wasn't all lost. My daughter had to go to work, so my granddaughter and I worked on her reading all afternoon. She is doing so good. She's really motivated to learn and we do everything we can to make it fun for her.

Hope we have a goodnight sleep tonight lol.

IInteresting Reading

Thought I'd post while my daughter and granddaughter are outside practicing. My granddaughter has her first ball practice tomorrow for her new league, she moves up this year.

Ginger from Magical Holiday Home has started a blog network. These blogs will be centered around the special days that are celebrated at MHH. Some of the members have blogs for the holidays created already.

I'm rolling some ideas around in my head of blogs I could create to join the network. But this is a busy time right now so I'm still in the consideration stage LOL.

I do enjoy reading others blogs tho. Ginger has a new one I plan to keep up on. It's called Fairy Dust & Fairy Kissess. I like reading about anything magical.

Not feeling well today and computer is being a butt but maybe it will let me give you the link to MHH

Ughhhh

Don't mean to offend anyone but these doctors are getting on my nerves. We recieved a letter from the doctor that did the scope. Now my hubby has to go see hm next week.

When we called to see what was going on had to leave a number for them to return the call. When the secretary return the call she said the nurse said he needed to see this doctor because he did the scope. WTH his regular doctor gave him the results already. Another week to wonder.

On top of that we're in a moderate risk for severe weather tomorrow.

On a good note my granddaughter found out last night which softball team she'll be on. While our friend whom she's used to won't be her main coach he is the assisstant coach.

Hubby update

The doctor said my hubby did NOT have what we feared. Thank God He wants to scan it again at the end of the month to see if it went away on it's own. If it doesn't he'll probably want to remove it.

To be honest with you I've been pretty positive all week was pretty sure it would be ok. But today I woke up what iffing. I HATE it when that happens I know it's not good for me or anyone else.

This reinforces the saying "one day at a time" to me. We need to make sure we're the best we can be for ourselves and others. Enjoy life, enjoy the moment, enjoy family and friends. Look for the Good. Let Go and Let God. Live, Laugh and Love, Keep it Simple These are all sayings I know and wanted to remind myself while sharing with you.

I ask you to continue your good thoughts and prayers that it clears up all the way.

My sincerest thank you.

Serenity

At least it isn't raining today. Altho, there were some severe storms around last night.

It seems like the weather is always around to remind us there are somethings in life we have no control over.

Which usualy makes me think of The Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.

Two years ago today our town was hit by a F3 tornado. The weather is fair today but looks like it could be a stormy day tomorrow.

I'm living by the words "One day at a time" right now. And doing my best to think positively, so far I'm doing a pretty good job.

Working on posting something to my blog right now even if it's a short post.

One foot in front of the other, baby steps, do what I can do.

Update

Well hubby got out of the hospital last night and went back to work today. I think he's trying to stay busy. He probably is bored too he spent 4 days and 3 nights in the hospital. He has several different meds to take.

When they did the test on his stomach the doctor noticed something else. So we're waiting a week to see exactly what that is. Everyone please send good vibes this way.

Thanks

A Long Day

Yesterday we went out to eat. Then came home to help my granddaughter practice for softball. In that practice I got smacked in the head with a softball. Boy that stung.

Then in the middle of the night my hubby became ill. He was vomiting violently and very weak. We got a ambulance to come and get him. His own doctor saw him in the ER. He said early this morning his small intestine has a infection in it. This evening he said he also has pnewmonia in his left lung. I'm guessing he's going to be in the hospital for a few days.

I know this is short and simple just the basics but wanted to give a small idea of what I've been up to since my last post was posted.

I'm not sure how much if anything I'll be posting the next few days. I hope to at least get a quote up between going to hospital and doing errands.

Easter

Today is Easter I have a crick or something in my neck it's painful.

My granddaughter doesn't eat boiled eggs so we hide plastic eggs with prizes in them for her egg hunt. She found eggs that meant candy, an egg for a root beer(she loves those yuck), an egg for a milk shake, an egg for 30 minutes of uninterrupted computer time for her, and an egg for $1 . Plus the Easter bunny left her two one dollar bills to find when she woke today. She's a happy little girl right now with her new red and white polka dot dress on.

Now if this roast would get that little bit of pink color out we'd be ready to eat bar-b-que. We decided to just have bar-b-que, chips, deviled eggs today. Keeping it simple.

.

Happy Easter

I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Easter tomorrow.

We have a roast on cooking. It is a large one so we hope to make barbque sandwiches and maybe homemade coleslaw with half of it today.

The other half we will add potatoes, carrots and gravy, and have deviled eggs to go with it tomorrow.

If I can get a good enough picture on my camera phone I will post it to show the Mississippi out of it's banks here. I've took some on my film camera but they aren't developed yet.

Watching the river

As some of you may know there are river, lakes and streams overflowing their banks in Missouri. Some towns have evacuated citizens. Last I heard there were 13 deaths due to flooding.

We live right on the Mississippi River. It is out of it's banks here but not over the levee thank goodness. A close eye is being kept on it.

Please don't play with the water. Learn flood safety tips. If you run upon water please:

DO NOT DRIVE THROUGH FLOODED AREAS.TURN AROUND DON`T DROWN.

Drained

Think my word for today would be drained. The last two and a half weeks have been one thing on top of another. Our schedules and routines are all out of whack. The weather has been all screwy, it's downright cold today.

I just feel emotionally and physically drained!

One Warning on top of another tonight

Weather has been wierd tonight. One warning(mostly tornado) on top of another has been happening here tonight. Thankfully there's been very little damage anywhere so far. Hopefully it will stay that way.

Think there's the possibility for more of this mess tomorrow. I'm ready for Spring but not the stormy Spring weather.

leprechaun visit

We had our first ever leprechaun visit last night. A good leprechaun by the name of Patty O'Tool stopped by sometime during the night.

He found my granddaughters green ribbons from girl scouts on our refrigerator. He liked them alot and left her a nice little note and a little green bill($1)

She was soooo excited when she found it. Unfortunately, we were dealing with something else and didn't get to enjoy her excitement with her.

But wanted to say thank you Mr. O'Tool she really appreciated you stopping by even tho she didn't see you.

Quite sunday

It's a quite sunday here. I've been surfing the web. Sometimes I have a huge thirst for knowledge. Working on implementing some of what I'm learning.

Happy to report on the 30 day experiment that we've ate at home the last 2 days and I've suceeded in drinking 20 ozs of water each day. Believe me this is hugh for me.

Granddaughter is doing great in first grade. She is really excelling at learning to read. She is so proud of herself as we are also.

Hope everyone had a great day.

Two 30 day experiments

We have two 30 day experiments going on here. One I'm doing all on my own. The other my daughter and granddaughter are participating in.

1.For 30 days we will eat at home. NO eating out.
2. For 30 days I will drink 20 oz. of water a day. Don't laugh I know I had trouble with 8 oz.

Here's the plan for #1. We will cook our meals at a time we have optimium(sp) energy. We will cook enough for more than 1 meal, so we can reheat leftovers. We will make sure we have oats, cereal, eggs here for other meals. On a day we might not feel like cooking we will have the ingrediants for either a salad or sandwiches.

What do we hope to accomplish with this? 1. Eatting healthier food.
2. Saving money eating out is expensive. 3. Create a better eating habits.

Here's the plan for #2. Whenever I wake up I will put a 20 0z bottle of water beside me to sip on through out the day.

What do I hope to accomplish? 1. As everyone says water is good for my body. It will help hydrate me, I drink too many Dr.Peppers but this should help me cut back some. 2. I want to be able to say I did this! Anyone that knows me knows I am NOT a water drinker. 3. Trying to create the habit of drinking water each day.

I write this here so I can go back and remind myself of our experiement. But I also write it for accountablity, it's here for everyone to see. If you read this you're more than welcome to ask us Did you succeed at eating at home today? Did you succeed at getting 20 oz of water down?

Hopefully, others will be encouraged to start 30 day experiments no matter how small they may seem.

5 St Patrick's Day Facts

Ginger at Ginger's Journey issued a challenge to post 5 things about St. Patricks Day, St. Patrick or Ireland.

My 5 facts about this fun Irish celebration are from:

http://holidays.kaboose.com/saint-patricks-day/quick_facts.html

Facts about St. Patrick's Day Holiday

St. Patrick’s Day is observed on March 17 because that is the feast day of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. It is believed that he died on March 17 in the year 461 AD. It is also a worldwide celebration of Irish culture and history. St. Patrick’s Day is a national holiday in Ireland, and a provincial holiday in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

In Ireland on St. Patrick’s Day, people traditionally wear a small bunch of shamrocks on their jackets or caps. Children wear orange, white and green badges, and women and girls wear green ribbons in their hair.

St. Patrick was born in 385 AD somewhere along the west coast of Britain, possibly in the Welsh town of Banwen. At age 16, he was captured and sold into slavery to a sheep farmer. He escaped when he was 22 and spent the next 12 years in a monastery. In his 30s he returned to Ireland as a Christian missionary. He died at Saul in 461 AD and is buried at Downpatrick.

34 million Americans have Irish ancestry, according to the 2003 US Census. That’s almost nine times the population of Ireland, which has 4.1 million people.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the highest number of leaves found on a clover is 14!

Check out the site for more St Patrick's Day facts and fun.

Interesting Reading

I've been reading Steve Pavlina blog at:

http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog

The following is a quote from his A Better Life entry:

if you want to become a more positive thinker, then imagine yourself as thinking more and more positively – right now in this very moment. Don’t worry about tomorrow or next week. Stay centered in the moment.

This makes sense to me I'm making the intention to follow it.

You Find What You Look For

I have been doing better the last couple of days on my water goal but only because I haven't been feeling good, so drinking more water to help wash my system out.

The thought "You Find What You Look For" popped into my mind today. I've been turning it over and over. I know it's true. But sometimes it's hard to know which way to look.

I actually think it means if you're looking for negative that's what you'll find. If you're looking for postive then that's what you'll find.

Hope to be able to increase my positive finds.

Happiness

A quote to ponder:

When what we are is what we want to be, that's happiness.”

Malcolm S. Forbes

Tuesday, March 11, 2008

A poem

I want to share a little poem with you.

If you think you are beaten, you are.
If you think you dare not, you don't!
If you like to win, but think you can't,
it's almost a cinch that you won't.
If you think you'll lose, you're lost;
For out in the world we find
Success begins with a fellow's will;
It's all in the state of mind.
If you think you're outclassed, you are,
You've got to think high to rise.
You've got to be sure of yourself before you can win the prize.
Life's battles don't always goTo the strongest or fastest man,
But sooner or later the man who wins
Is the man who thinks he can!

by Walter D. Wintle

Rethinking weather goal

Not doing too good on my weather goal to post a weather term each day. Think I might have to rethink that goal.

To be honest, to me, unless there's some kind of weather we need to keep a eye on, just plain old weather is boring lol. No offense to weathermen meant.

So will be posting weather sporadically I guess.

Word for the day

I have a toss up for my word of the day. Not sure if it should be EXHAUSTED or DRAINED.

I'm just so tired today and have so many things on my mind.

Trying to grasp a concept I just read in a email : It's a feel GOOD concept.
It basically says NOT to try to switch your feelings. But to switch your ATTENTION. To something that feels GOOD.

That's all for now.

Change challenge update

As some of you may know I started a change challenge for myself on February 12th.

I have 3 tins. One tin for quarters which are for Christmas. One tin for dimes which are for a upcoming holiday or event. In this case they're for Easter at the moment . One tin for nickels which are for Halloween.

I put the change in the respective tin each day as well as add bills as I have them.

As of today there is:
$5.70 - in the Halloween tin
$20.26 - in the Easter tin
$13.50 - in the Christmas tin

Patting myself on the back because I'm am slowly but surely saving. YAY ME!

Snow, Snow and more Snow

Thought I might post while the weather will let me. I have only been on the computer about a hour and have had to disconnect and reconnect twice. Think the weather is messing with it.

The snow finally made it here about 3 hours ago. The wind is blowing HARD. We probably have close to 2 inches already. I heard them say on the scanner it was supposed to continue till about 11:30 p.m. The wind chill here is 16 at the moment.

BRRR it's cold

Winter Storm Warning

We're under a winter storm warning. We could get anywhere from a inch to 12 inches(depend on which station we listen to) of snow, sleet, or ice or a combination. Snow is what they're expecting.

A winter storm warning means: A significant winter storm or hazardous winter weather is occurring, imminent, or likely.

We have groceries, batteries, candles bought. Have no plans of leaving the house except hubby has to work tomorrow.

Everyone stay safe.

C-O- ME funny

Kids say the darnest things. My daughter asked my granddaughter how to spell come last night. Her answer was c-o-me well that does spell come LOL

Trying weather post again

Blogger is trying my patience. I had a weather post that for some reasn blogger decided to take out and put my pet peeve post there.

What I had posted was I was going to make my weather post short and simple today. I am tired of the waether flip flopping from warm to cold. Ready for the weather to stay one way awhile.

Pet Peeve

I have some pet peeves. To me pet peeves are things that I really dislike, don't quite understand and in some cases I will call a person on.

I was watching Nightline earlier and it made me think about one of my pet peeves. Part of the show was about a lady whose been dealing with the superbug for 3 years now.

They were telling people precautions that could be used. This lady bleaches everything in her house she can, keeps Lysol on hand and washes her hands quite often. Poor lady is on a IV drip again.

Anyway, it made me think of things I think are unsanitary and wonder about them. A pet peeve of mine is to see someone handle money then touch food. Money goes through so MANY peoples hands why would anyone touch someone else food without washing their hands first YUCK!

AS far as the superbug goes washing your hands often, using disinfectant,
personally, I carry a bottle of germ x in my purse.

Love for dancing

I'm sitting here eating girl scout cookies(all abouts and dosidos) yummy.

There was a brownie meeting tonight. They're working on their try it for dancercize. They did some dances(different movements). They had a blast.

I knew my grandaugther would love earning this try it. She LOVES to dance. And she's really GOOD at it. Her scout leader ask us did she take lessons. Our reply was no because we can't find anywhere around here for her to take lessons.

She is self taught. She has some dance dvd's and just loves to dance about. Wish we could find somewhere in the area to get her some more training.

Weather definition

Blogger can test my nerves sometimes lol. I tried(and thought succeeded) to post a weather definition before I posted my goal update. But when I checked my blog the weather definition wasn't there so let me try again.

Severe Thunderstorm WARNING/Tornado WARNING:

This means TAKE ACTION. Severe weather or a tornado has occurred in a storm moving in or is imminent. This is not time to start calling people, it is time to MOVE TO A SAFE PLACE. You should seek shelter on the lowest level, interior hallway away from glass or flying objects. DO NOT TRY TO OUTRUN A TORNADO IN A CAR. If a warning is issued for your area, take cover. If severe weather does not hit your immediate location, it is better to look at it in this light: Would you rather be in a safe place and have no severe weather, or be out in an unsafe place and be hit by a tornado? It only makes sense to take action.

Remember:
WARNING: Take action

Goal updates

Thought I'd give a little update on the goals I've set for myself. Im going to continue my February goals in March. I'm doing well with all of them except getting the water I need to drink.

My change challenge is coming along well. Not missing the change at all. Will count my containers later in the week and let you know how much is in each.

I've just started my weather goal for March it's coming along well at the moment.

I'm continueing my daily writing challenge.

How is everyone else doing?

23 months ago today

April 2 2006 was a beautiful spring day. We were outside getting some sun and letting the grandbaby play and enjoy the fresh air. The city elections were in 2 days. We were anxiously wondering if our candidates would win.

Don't remember who noticed first but before we knew it, We(esp. my daughter) were making trips back and forth in the house. Severe weather was developing in Arkansas and we were keeping a eye on local tv station. As well as monitoring the weather bug and my police scanner. The storms were getting worse and moving this direction.

Parts of this are a blur and parts are still so vivid. I remember hearing Marmaduke Ar. had just been hit by a tornado and there was mass destruction. It was still roaring our way. I was a little concerned but mostly thinking about the poor people in AR.

Afterall, we are on the Mississippi River. We're protected by the river. A tornado won't hit here it will jump the river. Let me tell you now I know from experience that is a MYTH. A tornado can hit ANYWHERE at anytime.

Before were knew it the monster was in Missouri. The county to the west of us was in a TORNADO WARNING. It was less than 30 minutes away. Could hear the reports coming across the scanner, this was a killer. Whoa it missed the town it was headed for BUT now it was headed straight for us.

By this time we were in the house watching tv, weather bug, listening to the scanner. Our storm spotters were out everywhere. OOPS I'd left my little portable scanner outside. My daughter went to get it. We heard rolling thunder that went on and on and on while she was out there. Figured out later that wasn't thunder it was the tornado destoring a small town in it's wake and leaving 1 dead and her son to die later from substained injuries. Our tornado sirens started sounding and continueing going off until the monster was gone.

My daughter came back inside and said look at the sky it's getting green. We live behind a church and my daughter said calmly it's time to go to the church. My daughter is usually not as calm as she was and truthfully I usually don't listen to her cause she used to panic. We all took off to the church. The rain hit so she grabbed up the grandbaby and ran with her.

Church was just getting out. We informed the pastor what was happening. Some of the members had left but quite a few were stll there. After a few minutes a friend of ours said he was going home it was just going to rain. His wife said oh NO you're not. My husband and other men in the church watch it coming toward us.

Someone yelled take shelter, there were quite a few kids and their mothers in a medium size bathroom. I was in the hall with other ladies but I squeezed my way through to get to my grandchild and daughter. Because if this was the end I wanted to be with them.

I remember hearing alot of praying going on. One little boy started to cry then my grandaughter started crying. His daddy came into the bathroom and took him from his mama(altho, she didn't want to let him go) he quited him. I never was so glad to see a man in a woman's bathroom it was a calming presence for a few minutes. I heard them say on my scanner a roof had just fell on the fire cheif(he's ok).

The lights flickered, more praying then the lights were out, crying, screaming, praying. Then it was over. Flashlights were turned on, heard scanner say entire south end of our town was GONE. More screaming some of these people had family there. My friends wife screamed at me TURN THAT THING OFF. I said NO we need to know when its ok to leave.

After a few minutes we went outside. There was hail the size of golfballs everywhere, mud on everything. Power lines and trees down. Windows broke out debri all around. But we were in the middle of town. Our house was fine but just 2 blocks south was the war zone devastation everywhere.

My sister was right in the middle of the tornado her house came down around her. Her and her neighbors help theirselves out to safety. 60 percent of our town was destoried by a F3 tornado. Thankfully there was no lose of life here. But it moved across the river to Tennessee to kill more people. The town had alot of rebuilding to do and some still going on.

Less than 2 weeks before this happened we'd had a class on what to do in a natural disaster. Our fire cheif had also receive an award for having our town storm ready. We're the only town in our area that was storm ready. That means they had plans in place, had took all the training and knew what to do if a bad storm hit.

I could go on and on telling you about things I saw, like neighbor helping neighbor, how people came from everywhere to assist. The narrow escapes, the wonder of why it hit one house but not the one beside it. But I wont do that now this is about long enough might tell more later in the month.

I can tell you everyone in our town was effeced by this monster if not physically then emotionally. I tell this with the hope that you'll always take the weather seriously. Have your protection plan in place, listen to tv, radio, whatever you have. Please don't have a false sense of security if you live close to a river, mountain or any other thing that's supposed to protect from storms.

Stay safe and know your surroundings.

Weather goal

Spring will be here soon, and so will the possibility of severe weather. I've set a goal to post weather information for the month of March. I intented to start my March postings telling you about the day our town was changed forever.

But I'm not feeling well today, so today's post will be a weather term everyone should know.

Severe Thunderstorm WATCH/ Tornado WATCH:

This means conditions are favorable to produce severe weather in OR CLOSE TO the watch area. It does not mean if a surrounding county is in a watch, and we are not, that we should not pay attention. It means exactly what it says, WATCH out. Keep an eye on the sky, turn on your tv, your local radio station, let your family know, and plan accordingly. Most watches run around 6 hours but can develop into a WARNING at any time.

Remember :
WATCH: Watch out and prepare

Contemplative

No access to intent yesterday so no post.

I have alot of things on my mind right now. So I think my post will simply be I'm in a contemplative mood right now. Thanks Ginger for the suggestion of a word for the day.

For me contemplative means to think about what's on my mind and decide on the best plan of action for me. Also at times to just forget about it and let it me.

Blogger time

I'm not sure what time zone blogger is set on. I know I missed posting Monday. But when I looked back over this weeks archives it showed no post from Saturday til Tuesday and I know I posted early Sunday morning.

I just posted a brag on my granddaughter and it showed up on Tuesday too. This is about 5 minutes later wonder what day it will show on.

Going to brag a little

I'm going to do a little grandma bragging tonight. As some of you might know my granddaughter is homeschooled. She's learning to read and doing a AWESOME job.

The site we use to help her is Starfall.com. We use it to compliment the other resources we use with her.

Ball season is also coming up here. We registered her this week. She moves up a league this year. Not batting off a tee anymore. So we've been practicing what we can with her inside. She is working enthusiactically to be a good team player.

WTG girl.

A little off color funny

A 5-year-old boy went to visit his grandmother one day. Playing with his toys in her bedroom while grandma was dusting, he looked up and said,'Grandma, how come you don't have a boyfriend now that Grandpa went to heaven?'

Grandma replied, 'Honey, my TV is my boyfriend. I can sit in my bedroom and watch it all day long. The religious programs make me feel good and the comedies make me laugh. I'm happy with my TV as my boyfriend.' Grandma turned on the TV, and the reception was terrible.

She started adjusting the knobs, trying to get the picture in focus. Frustrated, she started hitting the backside of the TV hoping to fix the problem.
The little boy heard the doorbell ring, so he hurried to open the door and there stood Grandma's minister. The minister said, 'Hello son, is your Grandma home?' The little boy replied, 'Yeah, she's in the bedroom bangin' her boyfriend.'

The minister fainted. Now, that's funny... I don't care WHO you are

For Monday

You might of noticed I didn't get a post done on the 25th. We got up late. Then had to get more cookies delivered almost done with delivering all those. Then had more errands to do.

So this may be my post for just yesterday or maybe for today too. I don't know, have things on my mind. I was feeling bad because I missed my daily commiment but then realized I'm still committed, life just got in the way Monday.

What are you passionate About

As my profile says I'm a housewife, mother(2 grown children) and grandmother. My family has been and still is my life. I've always like to learn new things.

Sometimes it feels like I just can't learn something tho. Or in this case figure out the answer to the question. Which is "What am I passionate about?" I never seem to have a answer to this question. That did frustrate me because I felt weird not knowing a answer. I should have a passion.I like to do alot of different things. Especially learning and putting what I learn into action.

Tonight I realized my passion is learning. And when I've learn all I feel like I need to learnat the moment I'm ready to move on to the next thing. That doesn't necessarily mean I'm a expert at what I'm learned it just means I have all the knowledge I need at the particular moment.

Sharing my thoughts through writing is one of the things I like to do. This challenge has been enjoyable to me. Tonight I was thinking about the goals I sat for February(can see under February goals). Except for my daily water goal I've done really good. I plan on continuing these goals in March.

But I also wanted to set a goal for March. As I thought about it I remember something I'd like to learn more about. Spring is coming. And in Missouri where I live Spring also means the possibility of severe weather. So in March I will be learning and posting about severe weather. I guess there's the possibility I will be posting 2 times day on some days because I'm sure there will be other things I'd like to talk about too.

There will be a storm spotter class here the first week of March but I don't know if I'll be able to attend. But my daughter is planning on attending so she can share with me what she was taught if I don't get to go.

I'm excited at the idea of setting a goal to reach in a month. Wish me luck. I do have to say I hope what I learn ISN'T needed here this year.

#5 Confidence Builder

Confidence builder #5 is 'become aware of negative self talk." I'll admit this is one I have to pay close attention to. Negative self talk
can creep in before I even realize it's there.

I'm not doing a good enough job getting organized. My post aren't interesting enough. What do I have to contribute? blah, blah, blah

I have to make a conscious effort to notice my self talk. Then I have to say to myself I hear you but sorry at this time I'm too busy to participate in this conversation. Or switch to positive self talk.

For example: Thought- I'm not organized enough. Switch thought to I do a little each day and I'm seeing progress along the way.

Becoming aware of negative self talk isn't a easy task. But it's well worth the effort to get the negative replaced with the positive.

At the moment, I'm having the thought this post just doesn't sound like I'm getting across what I'm trying to.

But I'm going to end this post with I know I've done the best I can and that's all anyone can do.

#4 Confidence Builder

Confidence builder #4 is "Stop Comparing Self to Others." I'm learning that comparing myself to anyone else is a losing game. For the simple reason that comparing is often done in a negative mindset.

See when you compare anything be it people, homes, towns etc... one is often lacking something the other has.

But what I'm learning in reality is there is only one. There is only one me and I'm good enough. There is noone else EXACTLY like me.

There is only one house EXACTLY like mine. Only one town EXACTLY like mine. But for this entry I'm only talking about people.

We all have our similiarities but we're all different too. Comparing is competing. There's no competition. We all have our own looks, talents, desires, feelings, thoughts......

While there is always room to learn, grow and improve. We each do it in our own way and at our own pace.

I Am Unique. Want you join me in celebrating our uniqueness ?

Sincere Compliments

One of my February goals is to read my emails and ebooks that help me grow at least twice a week.

Alot of the things I read I already do or I've heard before and maybe didn't quite grasp the meaning the first time. Or this time they might be explained in a way I can better understand.

For instance, today I was reading something I'd read before but this time it was being explain in a different way.

The idea was to "MAKE PEOPLE FEEL GOOD ABOUT THEMSELVES AND FEEL GOOD ABOUT MYSELF IN THE PROCESS."

And the way to help others feel good about theirselves is to learn to give SINCERE compliments.

Now I very well know how to give a SINCERE compliment. As a matter of fact, I just gave some SINCERE compliments today. Could tell the people receiving them felt good and I also felt good giving the compliments.

But what I hadn't thought about was that this builds their confidence and mine too. All parties feel good from the transaction. I also realize to do this I have to take time to NOTICE others. Sometimes in my busy life's I don't pay attention. I just pay for the service I've received(groceries, gas, fast food etc...) get my stuff and leave. Or I pay the utility bills or take my library books back and leave.

Dale Carnegie was very good at the demonstrating the pleasure of making someone feel good about themselves.

Dale would turn a person's day around, and make them feel GREAT about themselves, by issuing a simple, sincere compliment.

He'd go away feeling great about himself; the receiver sure felt good about themself; they had a nice little conversation; and that was that.

I want to become better at giving SINCERE compliments to my family, friends and others I encounter through the day.

ICE STORM WARNING

Thought I'd make my daily post while the weather is permitting. We were put under a Ice Storm Warning about 5 minutes ago till Friday. They're predicting at least a half inch of ice. The weather channel said to be prepared for down trees and power lines.

This definately falls into the catagory of "focus on what I can control." Which means to do all we can to stay warm and safe.

Back to watching more weather.

ICE

We have the possibility of ICE(yuck) hitting our area during the night or early tomorrow. We went to the grocery store last night. At least half our heat is gas. The laundry is the majority of the way caught up. We're going to get some more candles in a little bit. So I guess we're about as prepared as we can be.

I'm doing my writting challenge now and if the electricity(I hope not) should get took out. I will just write on paper and post when I can.

Everyone who might be in the path of this stay safe and warm.

Tiring day.

We are give out tonight. It's 11:25 here. We have delivered so many cookies today and still have quite a few to go. And other folks who didn't get cookies wanting cookies. Good thing the scout leader brought a few extra.

Need to check the weather to see if we're still in the possibility of wintry mix.

So this will be short tonight but I feel GOOD that I'm still making my committment to the challenge.

Cookies

Well I know what we're going to be doing for the next few days. Delivering girls scout cookies. My granddaughter sold 375 boxes of cookies. This is great for her because she's a little on the shy side.

It has been a great experience so far. The group goal was 200 boxes each but the prize she wanted you had to sell 300 boxes. So she sat herself a goal of 300 boxes and really worked for it. She 's a inspiration-if you want something give it all you have.

Congrats girl good job.

A Reminder

Discovered on the intenet a few years ago that when the Amish ladies make a quilt they always purposely put a mistake in it. This is a reminder to them that noone is perfect. There's only been one perfect being on this earth.

Every time I've read over my published post lately and see the mistakes I've missed I'm reminded of the Amish reminder and don't stress so much over it. My mistakes aren't on purpose but they help me remember I'm not perfect.

#2 abd #3 Confidence builders

I intended to only post the #2 confidence builder tonight but when things were getting a little frustrating realized I might as well post #3.

#2 confidence builder is "Create an action plan to address worries." I realized I hadn't posted my writing challenge for today about 20 minutes ago. So I'm thinking don't worry about it. Because my action plan was to post here at least once a day. There's no set time I have to post.

So I truck on over here and proceed to pull up blogger. And low and behold what do I see over and over. Page cannot be found I hate that saying lol. Not sure if it was blogger acting up or my computer.

But I'd decided if I couldn't get the page up I'd apologize and post it on MHH if I had to. Because I'd made a commitment to myself and accepted Ginger's challenge to write once a day.

So I pulled out my confidence builder's and knew what should be posted as #2. But the trouble I'd went through trying to post this help me decide to go ahead and post my #3 confidence builder "Focus On What I Can Control."

I couldn't control my computer or the internet but I could control how stressed I did or didn't get over the situation. For the most part I did pretty GOOD(patting self on back).

So I just need to make a effort, create my action plan, and remember what actually is in my control.

P.S. I had to go to draft to try again to post this because it said blogger couldn't be contacted.

1 Confidence Builder for me

I Never Know What I Might Find when I clean out my purse that I've forgetten about. As I was cleaning my purse tonight I found a folded piece of paper. When I opened it to read it I knew what it was and wondered how I forget it.

Written on the paper were some confidence building goals I'd just wrote a few weeks ago. So instead of stuffing them in my purse where I might forget them again I decide to put them in my blog, one at a time. As well as motivating me to write, it puts them where I'm more likely to see them.

Today's confidence builder goal for me is "become effort oriented, not results oriented" To me this means put the effort out there and not have a preconceived notion of how it just has to be. The results might be better than I could have ever anticipated. They might be what I expected, or they might not be.

But as I always told my kids just try your best that's all you can do.

Accomplishments so far

Just thought I'd post a update on my February goals, my change challenge. and things we're working on this month.

February Goals

1. Drink at least 8oz. water daily. This one is a hit and miss but I keep working on it.
2. Do my arm exercises. Have accomplished daily so far.
3.Start a blog and write in it daily. Have accomplished daily so far.
4. Meditate daily. Have accomplished daily so far.
5. Read and practice my emails and ebooks that help me grow in the areas I want to at least 2 times a week. Have accomplished this so far.
6. Make eye contact with others. Have accomplished daily so far.

Change challenge

I will save at least one quarter a day toward Christmas. Have accomplished daily so far.
I will save at least one dime a day toward a holiday coming up. Have accomplished daily so far.
I will save at least one nickel a day for Halloween. Have accomplished daily so far.

I haven't got my emergency(my daughter does tho) fund set up yet but will soon.

I think I'm doing pretty good. We are also doing 15 minutes(each) a day decluttering and cleaning. We can already feel a nice difference in our home.

We're also trying to eat healthier and exercise more. But through all this it has to feel GOOD and kept simple as to be motivated to continue.

Happy Valentine's Day

Hope everyone is having a Happy Valentine's Day. I have the valentine my favorite little girl(granddaughter) made me on the right.

Early Planning stages.

We're discussing doing a Mother's/Father's Day outside celebration around the end of May.

We're working on giving my granddaughter more experiences to enjoy the year. My husband's parents are no longer with us and mine aren't in the best of health. So the plan is to try to have more family/friends get togethers.

The warm weather(as long as it cooperates) will be a good time to start. Our house is too small to entertain large groups but the yard is good size and on top of that there's a vacant lot right beside us we can use.

We have the menu planned. Here it is:

homemade mashed potatoes(peeling left on),
beans & ham,
baked ham,
deviled eggs,
cornbread,
cakes-a chocalate and strawberry,
sweet tea,
soda(maybe),
light bread,
chips

Simple but delicious food we can sit around and enjoy while we enjoy each others company.

My Change Challenge

Someone at http://magicalholidayhome.com/forum suggested looking at the site
http://cindysporch.com/pages/cashchristmas_jar.shtml for ways to help save money.
I really enjoy both these sites.

I'm taking the cash stash idea at Cindy's Porch and using it in a way to challenge mself to save. I'm going to use my change broken down in nickels, dimes, and quarters.

I will save at least one quarter a day toward Christmas.

I will save at least one dime a day toward a holiday coming up. At the moment I'm saving my dimes for Easter.

I will save at least one nickel a day for Halloween.

Each denomination of coins will have their own decorated(hopefully lol) container. Now this might not sound like much to some folks. Bt it is a attainable goal to me.

I will also be adding bills as I have them to the containers. I plan on putting the money in the containers and forgetting about it.

I'm also going to start a emergency fund. Don't know if I'll have $1000 in it by next February but I'll have something.

I have to start somewhere and baby steps usually work best for me.

Thanks

Thanks to Ginger from Ginger's Journey for helping me learn how to add links on my page. Now that I know where to look I'm sure I'll be experimenting with the POSSIBILITIES.

But for now I need to get off and keep a eye on the weather. We're in a winter storm warning . We could receive freezing rain, sleet and snow. We're getting rain, sleet, thunder and lightening at the moment. Crazy weather.

Looking Around

Been looking around the net tonight as well as doing a little chatting. Everyone knows to eat healthy, exercise, meditate etc... to help mprove your life.

But exactly what kind of foods should one eat? We all have diffeent prefereces, and different tolerances for some food. What kinds of food help fight off sickness? I know water is really good for me. I'm working on a goal this month to simply get
8ozs a day down. That would be good for me I don't care much for drinking water.

Not everyone is capable of doing strenous exercise so what do those folks do? Personally, I like Denise Ausin simple exercises called Deskercise

http://www.deniseaustin.com/free/getfit/deskercise_invi.asp

So I've been doing some research on the net to help gain more healthy habits.

If you have any tips to share please feel free to comment.

Doing Better

My granddaughter is doing better today. Thank God. She's been up moving around more and letting her little personality shine again. Her apetitite still isn't right but it should be in a few days.

She'll be 7 years old tomorrow. We sent her a Ariel Happy Birthday bouquet today. We put it on a local tv station here and her party is tomorrow evening. She's excited. She got up singing "tomorrow is my birthday". It feels so good to see her feeling better.

I've been working on my goals but it's been hard this week. The water goal isn't going as well as I'd liked. But at least my arms are tightened and toned back up . That's what I love about that exercise it's simple and effective.

I'l l get a chance tomorrow at the birthday party to focus on making eye contact. That's a tough goal for me too. But I know it's something I need and want to accomplish.

Hopefully, next week I'll be able to learn how to post pictures on here. As well as get links down the side.

As always, thanks for reading and feel free to leave comments. I love reading them.

Calmer Day

Well the weather is calmer and colder today. We had a scare last night but all is well in my town. Our thoughts and prayers are with the communities that weren't as fortunate.

My granddaughter still isn't feeling well today. She's sleeping more today so far she's only been sick to her stomach once. Her birthday is Saturday hopefully she'll be all well by then.

I've accomplished all my February daily goals except getting that water down about halfway there. I'm not a water drinker lol

I don't have much to say right now kinda wore out.

But let me tell you about a sticker I saw the other day I thought was so cute. It said:

Age is just a number and mine is unlisted.

A little bit anxious

I'm a little bit on the anxious side today. My granddaughter work up sick. She's been vomiting and having diaherria poor thing.

On top of that we're in a high chance of severe weather. In Aprl of 2006 we were hit not once but twice by tornados. The first one being a F3 and leaving major destruction. The weather channel is calling for the chance of dozens to outbreak today.

So I thought I'd come over here and work on my daily writing challenge as well as update on how my daily goals have went so far.

1. Drink at least 8oz. water daily. I know I need more than this. But for me to get at least 8 ozs down is a accomlishment. This goal was reached 2-04-08

Feburary Goals

In my quest to find and do things that help me feel GOOD in 2008 I've decided to set monthly goals. Feburary's daily(all but 1 are daily) goals are:

1. Drink at least 8oz. water daily. I know I need more than this. But for me to get at least 8 ozs down is a accomlishment.
This goal was reached 2-04-08

2. Do my arm exercises. I have a flabby place on my arm that I don't like. You know the place between the elbow and shoulder on the backside. I know a simple exercise that will tone and tighten this I just have to do it.

Well these are my goals for Feburary I think they will help me grow. Do you set short term goals?

Welcome

Ok I'm taking the plunge. This is my little blog spot in the ever so large blog world.

Gingerbug at http://magicalholidayhome.com/forum has some challenges going on that I wanted to take part in. One is a daily writting challenge. While I'm no expert writer I do believe writing is a very theraputic experience. I like to write about anything and everything.

On the forum we have a thread called choosing your word. We choose a word we'd like to represent our life for 2008. My word is to feel GOOD.but all the other words intertwine with my word(to me) as a way to helping my life feel GOOD. One word in particular really JUMPED out at me. That word was "POSSIBILITIES" when I think of all the good possibilities in the world well it just makes me feel GOOD.

Henceforth, the name of this blog "possibilities". I plan on writing about different things here so you have the possibility of reading about crafts, feelings, cooking, softball, tv, books, goals, surveys, jokes, homeschooling this list goes on and on. Hopefully, what I share will help someone feel GOOD in some way.

Please feel free to leave your comments and suggestions. If you'd like to swap links just let me know. Come back often.
